Issue 5: Mapping the Unmappable / Mapeando lo intrazable

Dearly Dissolve-d,

We are very happy to bring you the fifth issue of Dissolve, Mapping the Unmappable / Mapeando lo intrazable. It is the result of a particular collaboration across geographic and linguistic lines. Bogotá-based editor, Juan Pablo Pacheco, worked with three distinct Colombian voices, while Dissolve worked with three voices based, more or less, in the Bay Area. All of the articles, published in both Spanish and English, have been translated in order to compile two iterations of the issue, mirroring each another—with both Spanish and English texts. This issue provided a way to not only expand Dissolve’s readership, but to also explore the common and uncommon spaces between two languages, and between two geographical regions. It is the result of a transnational collaboration sparked by similar interests and objectives; a constant effort to turn friendships, conversations, and ideas into relevant projects that allow us to further understand the modalities, spaces, connections, and intersections that shape our lives. Our cover for this issue is a short film by Paula Morales.

This issue also marks the first year of Dissolve publishing online content. We would like to warmly thank those of you who attended our Birthday Bash on August 18th, and many of you who have generously supported Dissolve both financially and through your time, space, ideas and willingness to continue Dissolving with us.

From both hemispheres,
Dissolve xo
